Sunday, June 06, 2010 The editor traveled and didn't keep up the site content, but Ridgewood fell 6-5 to Montclair in the sectional semis.  Nuff said.

What a great season:

  • 24-6 Record
  • County tournament finalist
  • Beat rivals including Paramus twice and IHA, Pascack Valley, Ramsey, Saddle Brook, Fair Lawn, and Northern Highlands.
  • Only loss in Bergen County all year was to Indian Hills in County finals 3-2 in 8 innings.  We scored 2 runs off Katie Enright in that game, and she gave up 16 runs ALL YEAR en route to a dream season of winning the State Championship as well.
  • The team and coaches really had fun together and created memories that will never fade..
Sunday, May 23, 2010 JV finished runner up in Nutley Tournament.  Alicia Whalen pitched great semifinal and final games, and Ridgewood pounded the ball, but couldn't hang on to win the final game.  In the semifinal game Amy David had a triple and single, Hannah Schwartz had a double and triple, and Katie Mulroy and Sophia Barbera each had doubles.  In the final game, Andie Scibetta had 2 triples and 4 RBIs, and Mollie Grunat had 2 hits.  JV finished the season with a record of 15-5.
Sunday, May 23, 2010 Varsity beat rival Paramus 6-5 at Paramus in a tune-up for the state sectional semifinal game.  Ridgewood jumped out to a 5-0 lead behind a grand slam by Lauren Tom (see RXB TV video).  Ridgewood took a 6-2 lead into the 7th, but Paramus pulled within 6-5 and loaded the bases with one out before pitcher Nicole Hroncich fielded a ball for a force play at home and then got the next batter to pop out to Kat Bonelli (who seems to always have the ball when we finish a big win - IHA, West Milford, Paramus county game come to mind).  Ridgewood season record improves to 24-5.

Friday, May 21, 2010 On "Senior Day" and in the second round of the state sectional playoffs, Ridgewood sailed into next Tuesday's semifinal game with a 12-0 5 inning mercy win over Barringer at Vets SE.  Nicole Hroncich threw 4 dominant innings and and Marisa Gorman came on to close the shutout.  Kat Bonelli had 2 hits, 3 RBIs and an early throw across the diamond that contributed to the shutout.  After the game, the Ridgewood crowd honored the team's only senior, Alex Scibetta, with flowers and hugs.  Scibetta doubled and scored in what may be her last high school at bat at home.

#3 seed Ridgewood plays at #2 seed Montclair next Tuesday.  The winner of that game plays in the state sectional final next Friday at the higher seed.  #1 seed Morris Knolls plays #8 Roxbury today in their quarterfinal game, and #13 Bloomfield awaits the winner of that game in next Tuesday's other semifinal matchup.  (In other words, if Ridgewood wins Tuesday it will play at Morris Knolls if they win today and Tuesday, otherwise we'd host either Roxbury or Bloomfield.

Thursday, May 20, 2010 Varsity came back to salvage a potential state tournament run by scoring a run in the 6th and 7th to beat Hackensack 2-1.  Trailing 1-0 with 2 outs in the 6th, Lauren Tom belted a homerun out of Vets Southeast to tie the score.  In the bottom of the 7th, Courtney Pedalino had a lead off bunt base hit (her third hit of the game).  Margo Tanner then hit into a fielder's choice, and moved to second tagging on a foul pop out.  With 2 outs, Christina Bicks plated the winning run with a walk off hit (offically recorded as a single) over the centerfielder's head.  Nicole Hroncich held Hackensack to just 2 hits, and Ridgewood recorded 9 hits, including 3 by Alex Scibetta (who later that evening was reported to have pllayed the guitar and sang effectively in front of a large crowd...in french!).  The Group 4, North 1 State Sectional "Round of 16" win moves Ridgewood into the Sectional Quarterfinals today at home against #11 Barringer who beat #7 seed West NY.
Thursday, May 20, 2010 JV fell to Paramus.  No score reported.
Tuesday, May 18, 2010 Ridgewood fell to Nutley Monday in a non-league tune-up for the states.  Ridgewood fell behind 6-1 and entered the 7th inning trailing 6-2.  However, a two out rally brought Lauren Tom to the plate with the score 6-3 and the bases loaded.  Tom drilled a ball over the leftfielder's head, scoring two and creating an opportunity for the runner on first, Bianca Palacio, to potentially tie the score.  Palacio got around thirdbase in a flash, she was waved around, the shortstop took the relay and made a perfect throw home.  In a bang bang play Palacio was tagged out and the almost incredible rally fell just short.

Monday, May 17, 2010 Indian Hills beat Ridgewood 3-2 in 8 innings in the Bergen County Softball Tournament finals front of a large crowd at Saddle Brook.  Indian Hills jumped ahead 1-0 in the first on a homerun, but Ridgewood countered in the second with a homerun by Claire Dennis, and singles by Lauren Tom, Courtney Pedalino and Margo Tanner to take a 2-1 lead.  Ridgewood's 4 hits in the inning were twice as many as Indian Hills star pitcher Katie Enright had given up in its quarterfinal and semifinal games combined.  Indian Hills tied the score in the 4th on a freak play.  With 2 outs and 2 strikes to the batter, a ball away tipped off the catcher's glove - not a problem with the short backstop - and then struck a bracing poll on the inside of the fence (they should be built on the outside!) which propelled the ball into the infield and allowed the runner to tie the score.  Indian Hills loaded the bases in the 5th and 7th but Ridgewood got out fo the jams.  In the bottom of the 8th, Indian Hills got a leadoff soft single to right, moved the runner over to 3rd with one out, and scored on an infield ground ball where the runner slid home safely as the Indian Hills team went wild in celebration.

As painful as the loss was, Ridgewood proved over the weekend that it can play with anyone, battering Pascack Valley on Saturday and then outhitting a Katie Enright-led team (unofficially, I'm pretty certain that had not been done by anyone this year, she has 14 shutouts and has dominated) and coming within an architectural mishap of winning the County Tournament.

Sunday, May 16, 2010 Ridgewood is going to the Bergen County Softball Tournament finals for the first time since 2005, after pounding out 13 hits and playing stellar defense in a 9-2 win over Pascack Valley in the semifinals at Indian Hills.  #1 seed Indian Hills dominated IHA 6-0 in the other semifinal game.

Pascack Valley came into the game with a record of 22-2 record and the favored #2 seed.  The score was 0-0 in the 3rd inning when, as Coach Muzio can be heard saying on the RXB TV video, Ridgewood is "putting on a clinic" en route to a 6 run inning.  Christina Bicks led off with a bunt base hit, Christine Reynolds laid down a bunt that was mishandled, scoring Bicks, and Alex Scibetta followed with a pull-back double down the left field line.  Claire Dennis made is 3-0 with an old fashioned 2 RBI base hit up the middle.  Lauren Tom followed with a pull-back single, and one out later Courtney Pedalino loaded the bases with a base hit, and Margo Tanner followed with an RBI hit to make it 4-0.  Bicks then made it 6-0 when the shortstop doved to prevent a clean hit, then flipped to second too late and wild trying to force out Kat Bonelli at second, allowing Pedalino and Tanner to score (note: Bicks was on twice in that inning).  PV threats in the middle innings were thwarted by timely strikeouts and pitcher-forced popups by Nicole Hroncich, plus some stellar defensive plays by Scibetta in center and smart decisions by shortstop Pedalino, a nice pick and force out at second by firstbaseman Bonelli, and a perfectly fielded bunt by Tom at third.  PV got a run back in the 6th on a homerun, but Ridgewood added 3 in the 7th highlighted Pedalino's second hit of the game, an RBI single.  Ridgewood closed it out 9-2, and the raucus Ridgewood supporting friends and family formed an impromptu gathering around the dugout and greeted the players and Coaches Auger, Mahler and Halm as they came up the steps one by one.

Friday, May 14, 2010 RHS Varsity hit the 20 win mark with a big victory over Eastside.  Unoffically the editor thinks Marisa Gorman threw a no hitter with one walk, and she kocked in 5 RBIs with a bases loaded triple, single and walk.  Katie Mulroy had a 2 run double, and Andie Scibetta had her first varsity hit, as many of the regular starters got to rest in front of tomorrow's county tournament semifinal game.
Friday, May 14, 2010 Varsity beat Bloomfield 3-1.  Christine Reynolds made a circus catch in left field, Claire Dennis returned to the lineup to collect 2 hits, Morgan Grunat drove in a run, and Ridgewood ran its record to 19-3.  The editor is traveling so he checked the Bergen Record online, and according to them the other RBI was picked up by RHS 2006 grad Lauren Coven, who is playing for Bowdoin in the D3 playoffs this week.  She can do it all!  My guess is it was actually Lauren Tom who picked up that RBI.
Friday, May 14, 2010 The JV moved to 14-3 on the year with a 13-3 victory over the Bloomfield Bengals.  Katie Mulroy supported another fine performance on the mound by going 3-3 at the plate.  Andie Scibetta, Sophia Barbera, and Hannah Schwartz each collected 2 hits with Scibetta and Barbera driving in 3 runs apiece.  In a big run-producing 3rd inning, the Maroons had every batter in the lineup score at least once.
Tuesday, May 11, 2010 Varsity and JV both defeated Kennedy on Tuesday.  Varsity won 16-0 behind the no hit pitching of Marisa Gorman.  RBIs were collected by, among others, Emily Riemer (2), Katie Mulroy and Bianca Palacio.
Tuesday, May 11, 2010 Freshmen started this week off much better, with a win against Lakeland on Monday at Vets Southeast.  Ridgewood started the inning off with walks by Curran McSwigan and Giovanna DeSimone.  After a few stolen bases, they were both in scoring position.  McSwigan scored on a throwing error in the field and DeSimone scored on a double by Allie Seibold.  Ridgewood took an early lead, 2-0.  They added 7 more runs in the bottom of the third.  Emma Thompson (pinch running for Erica Dennis) and Taryn Carroll both scored on wild pitches.  McSwigan got on with a single, DeSimone with a walk, both scoring on a double by Meaghan Krenn.  Seibold singled and then scored on a single by Blair Anzalone.  Jaime Gorman and Erica Dennis added one more RBI each.  At the end of three, Ridgewood was up 9-0.  Lakeland scored their one and only run in the top of the fourth inning, with Ridgewood scoring one more in the bottom of the fourth.  The "mercy rule" was applied in the bottom of the sixth as Ridgewood brought across their eleventh run on a bases loaded single up the middle by Alice Smith to end the game.  Seibold went 2 for 2 with 2RBIs and  Krenn went 1 for 2 with 3 RBIs.

Monday, May 10, 2010 Sibling Symmetry!  (Editor apologizes in advance for the Scibetta indulgence to follow).  Ridgewood JV and Varsity may have done something never accomplished before - or at least never noticed before !  Two pairs of sisters batted at the same time on adjacent fields in the same game where you could watch them simultaneously (one pair play the same catcher position, the other pair are the same #3 spot in the batting order).  In the 3rd inning of the Varsity game, catcher Morgan Grunat grounded out just as her sister Mollie singled.  Fast forward to the 5th inning of the Varsity game, and CF and #3 batter Alex Scibetta concluded, shall we say, an unproductive at bat...just as her sister Andie, the JV secondbasemen and #3 batter, clocked a homerun to deep leftcenterfield.

Stay with me now, as this is a little wierd because it translates to defense as well...In the first inning of the JV game, a 2 out Lakeland hit was fielded by the CF (Tracy Callaghan) who made a perfect throw to 2B Andie Scibetta, who made a perfect throw to catcher Mollie Grunat who tagged out the runner.  In the first inning of the Varsity game, CF Alex Scibetta fielded a Lakeland hit, made a perfect throw to Varsity 2B Christina Bicks, who made a perfect throw to catcher Morgan Grunat who tagged out the runner.  Wow. Dude.

Monday, May 10, 2010 Ridgewood varsity gutted out a 5-4 win at Lakeland.  Lakeland took the lead in the first on a single and a 2 out triple that would have been a homerun if not for an Alex Scibetta to Christina Bicks to Morgan Grunat tag out at the plate.  Scibetta batted with 2 outs in the 4th and broke up a perfect game with a clean single up the middle.  She then stole second and third, Lauren Tom followed with a walk and stole second, and Jeannie Kircher hit a ground ball to SS that was misplayed and Tom alertly scored then second run to make it 2-1.  Ridgewood scored 3 more in the top of the 5th, with a Christina Bicks RBI hit sandwiched around some walks and errors, and good baserunning by Bianca Palacio running for Margo Tanner.  The 5-1 lead was nearly extended to 7-1 when Lauren Tom's deep fly ball to RF - which probably went beyond 200 ft but there was no fence - was held up in the air by the win as the RF ran under it.  Lakeland roared back with 3 in the 5th on a walk, error and 3 run homerun.  That's where the game ended as firstbasement Kat Bonelli snared a line drive to end a Lakeland threat in the 7th.  Nicole Hroncich got the win on the mound.
Sunday, May 09, 2010 Ridgewood Varsity is headed to the Bergen County Softball Tournament semifinals next Saturday May 15 at noon at Indian Hills.  Ridgewood bested rival Paramus 5-3 in the quarterfinal round at IHA, avoiding distractions of injuries and a remade lineup, a blustery wind, delays caused by a home plate that wouldn't stay down, and a delayed start caused by morning rain.  Paramus plated 2 in the top of the first, but Ridgewood came roaring back in the bottom of the second.  Jeannie Kircher reached on an infield error, and Courtney Pedalino surprised Paramus's aggressive bunt defense by lining a single to left.  Nicole Hroncich, batting for the first time in a long time due to an lineup remade because of the an injury to starting catcher Claire Dennis, bunted foul, got down 0-2, and then lined a clean single up the middle to load the bases with no outs.  Margo Tanner flied to deep left for a sac RBI, but the other runners held at first and second.  Then things got interesting.  The runners moved up on a passed ball, then with 2 outs Pedalino scored on a wild pitch to tie the score 2-2.  Christina Bicks walked and Christine Reynolds followed with a 2 RBI base hit down the left field line, with Reynolds going all the way to 3rd on a throw home.  Ridgewood extended the lead to 5-2 when Alex Scibetta barely beat out an infield single to score Reynolds.  Paramus threatened repeatedly, but Hroncich's pitching backed by solid defensive plays by Lauren Tom at 3rd, Kat Bonelli at 1st and Scibetta in center, coupled with a Morgan Grunat-to-Pedalino thwarted steal attempt, kept Paramus off the board.  Paramus scored 1 in the 7th to make it 5-3, and had the tying run at the plate, but a Hroncich strikeout confirmed that Ridgewood will play in the County semifinals.
Sunday, May 09, 2010 Freshmen fell to Ramsey on Friday.  Video on RXB TV!
Friday, May 07, 2010 It has been a tough week for the Freshmen Softball Team.  Hunterdon Central was some tough competition for the girls on Wednesday at Vets Southeast.  Hunterdon Central went up 2-0 in the first inning, with Ridgewood's awesome defense holding them until the top of 5, where they added one more run.  Ridgewood came back to score 2 runs in the bottom of the fifth, closing the gap to 1.  Ridgewood had a chance to tie things up in the bottom of the 7th with a lead-off triple by Taryn Carroll.  Christine Tom then singled (and stole second).  With the winning run on second, Alice Smith hit a line drive, which should have gone into right field, but the second basemen somehow jumped five feet in the air grabbing it, ending the game.  We were all in shock!

The Freshmen suffered another loss to River Dell on Thursday with a score of 11-8.  Their record is now 11-4.
Friday, May 07, 2010 The JV went down to defeat at IHA by a score of 8-2. Katie Mulroy made several defensive gems at third base.

Thursday, May 06, 2010 Ridgewood wins even when we lose! Against 16-1 Hunterdon Central on Wednesday, Varsity fell 5-3, JV lost 6-3 and a late Freshmen rally fell short in a 3-2 loss.  But unlike Hunterdon Central's Varsity SS, no Ridgewood kid was seen throwing and landing a punch at an opposing player!  The editor left HC grateful that his kids are a part of our program and community that is comprised of coaches, players and parents who conduct themselves with integrity regardless of the game's outcome.

Ridgewood Varsity took a 3-0 lead in the first over a team that was recently ranked first in the state.  Claire Dennis and Courtney Pedalino had RBI hits.  Hunterdon Central came back with 2 in the first and 1 in the second to tie the score at 3-3.  In the bottom of the 6th Hunterdon Central had a runner on second with 2 outs, and a single to center was fielded by Alex Scibetta who gunned a throw to catcher Claire Dennis for a drammatic third out.  Then the runner slugged Claire!  The umps apparently didn't see it.  Hunterdon Central won with a walkoff homerun in the 7th, but as noted the editor left grateful he was not affiliated with the winning team.

Wednesday, May 05, 2010 On Tuesday, Freshman fell 5-0 to Paramus.  Varsity and JV games vs Paramus postponed and rescheduled for 5/22.
Monday, May 03, 2010 Varsity got by Ramsey 3-2 in a game played at Saddle Brook to advance to the Quarterfinals of the Bergen County Softball Tournament.  That game will pit #3 seeded Ridgewood vs #6 Paramus next Saturday 4pm at IHA.  Alex Scibetta knocked in the first run with a single in the bottom of the first.  Ramsey came back with a run in the top of the second, but Ridgewood got two in the third.  Kat Bonelli started the rally with a hot smash to SS that wasn't handled.  Christina Bicks followed with a single, and Bonelli scored when Chris Reynolds flair was not handled.  Claire Dennis's sacrifice fly plated Bicks to make it 3-1.  Ramsey came back with a run in the 4th, and threatened in the 6th but Nicole Hroncich induced Ramsey star and D1 prospect Lexi Knief to fly out with 2 outs and runner in scoring position.  Christina Bicks starred for the Maroons, going 2 for 2 with a walk, 2 runs scored, and fielding mutliple chances flawlessly at 2B.  Highlights shown on RXB TV.
Sunday, May 02, 2010 Ridgewood varsity beat Lodi 11-1 at Vets Southeast n the first round of the Bergen County Tournament.  Lodi came out aggressive and Ridgewood's defense was uncharacteristically shaky in the early innings.  Lodi took a 1-0 lead in the first, but Ridgewood came back with 2 in the bottom of the first and 1 in the second to take a 3-1 lead.  Ridgewood tacked on 2 in the 4th, and then ended the game under the mercy rule with a 6 run 5th.  Kat Bonelli, Jeanne Kircher and Claire Dennis each had 2 hits, and Nicole Hroncich got the win on the mound.  Ridgewood improves to 14-2 and moves on to play a tough Ramsey team in the 2nd round of the tournament today 2pm at Saddle Brook.

Saturday, May 01, 2010 Varsity fell to DePaul 2-1 as "Friend of the Program" makes game clinching playsDePaul Catholic doesn't have a fallball team, so DePaul Catholic Sophomore Shannon Walsh, the varsity starting 2nd basemen and cleanup hitter, asked if she could play with Ridgewood.  She contributed greatly in the fall games and developed great relationships with the Ridgewood HS team players.  Ironically, Ridgewood couldn't score the game tying run in the 6th when Kat Bonelli scorched a shot to Walsh, who fielded it and threw her out.  But in the 7th, Ridgewood loaded the bases, and Jeanne Kircher hit a line drive that appeared to be a 2 RBI go-ahead hit, but this time Walsh snared it on the end of her glove to change the outcome in favor of DePaul Catholic.  We'd rather see Ridgewood win, but congrats to Shannon! (which is what much of the Ridgewood team did after the game).

Saturday, May 01, 2010 JV pounded DePaul Catholic as Alicia Whalen homered. Record 11-1.
Saturday, May 01, 2010 The DePaul Catholic softball team was no match for Jaimie Gorman, who struck out 12 in 5 innings, shutting them out with a score of 19-0.  The freshmen power-housed their way through the line-up with every player getting on base atleast once during the game, sometimes twice in the same inning.  The biggest hit of the game came from Meaghan Krenn in the bottom of the third with a long fly ball to right center, bringing in 3 and landing her a triple.  The freshmen are now 11-1 on the season.
Friday, April 30, 2010 Katie Mulroy backed her fine shutout pitching performance by collecting 2 hits as the JV moved to 10-1 on the season with a 10-0 victory over Hackensack.  Sophia Barbera also got 2 hits from her leadoff spot.  As usual, the team displayed good defense and aggressive base running.
Thursday, April 29, 2010 Varsity got by Hackensack 1-0 behind 3 hit pitching from Marisa Gorman.  Christina Bicks had 2 hits and scored the game's only run.  Freshmen 10-1.
Thursday, April 29, 2010 Ridgewood alumns all over the place in Division III national rankings and college playoff battles.  In the April 28 rankings based on the team performance in 2010, the #1 ranked team in the East Region is TCNJ, led by Ellen Seavers (RHS 2006) and Kelly Homen (2009).  In the New England Region, #2 ranked Brandies is led by Mikey Cagar (2007), and #5 by Julia Jacobs (2006) and Lauren Coven (2006).  In the West Region, #2 CMS is led by Megan Morris (2008).  All are looking very secure in making their respective conference playoffs on the path to securing an NCAA playoff bid.  In addition, Amherst College, led by Jackie Tyler (2006) and Middlebury College, by Meg Margel (2007) are battling in the final regular season weekend to make the NESCAC playoffs.
Thursday, April 29, 2010 Varsity squeaked by Fair Lawn 2-1 at Vets SE on a blustery day that saw the fence just about blown over.  Kat Bonelli smacked a triple to right (one of only 2 Ridgewood hits) and scored on Bianca Palacio's pull-back infield ground ball.  Palacio later stole 3rd and scored to give Ridgewood a 2-0 lead in the middle innings.  Fair Lawn stormed back in the 7th, scoring a run and putting the tying run on 3rd with one out.  But Christine Reynolds -- playing thirdbase rather than leftfield in place of thirdbasemen Lauren Tom who was out ill -- fielded a ground ball, looked the runner back at third, and made play to first for the 2nd out, and Nicole Hroncich got the next batter to pop out to secondbasemen Christina Bicks to end the game.  Hroncich struck out 11 to get the win and Ridgewood improved to 12-1 on the season.
Thursday, April 29, 2010 Coach Heather Halm had to travel to Florida recently for a family emergency so it was great to her back with the kids, and they made her feel good with a 16-6 win over Fair Lawn at Vets North.  Hannah Schwartz led the hitting attack with a 4 for 4, HR and triple day, and Alicia Whalen got the win on the mound.  JV improved to 9-1 on the season.
Thursday, April 29, 2010 Freshmen improved to 9-1 with a 7-5 win over Fair Lawn.
Saturday, April 24, 2010 At the Mike Blake tournament at Northen Highlands to honor one of the softball community finest who died in September 2008, Varsity beat Northen Highlands 5-0 to up its record to 11-1.  Between the lines, Mike's senior daughter Amanda Blake pitched an oustanding game and kept her team in a 0-0 game until the 6th inning, when Ridgewood scored 5 runs on some poor defense and clutch 2 out RBI hits by Lauren Tom and Courtney Pedalino.  In a classy move off the field, the Ridgewood coaches, who have a tradition of awarding a game ball to the Ridgewood player of the game, awarded this one to opposing pitcher Blake, and it was delivered to her by Christine Reynolds and Christina Bicks.
Saturday, April 24, 2010 Varsity beat IHA 3-1 to go 10-1.  Beat IHA. Beat IHA.  Ridgewood jumped out to a 2-0 lead int he first on an infield single by Christine Reynolds, an RBI triple by Alex Scibetta, and then a 2 out infield RBI single by Lauren Tom.  IHA threatened with 2 out in the first but Courtney Pedalino alertly picked up a ball and fired home to Claire Dennis for the out.  Claire led off the 4th with a ground rule double that one hopped over the fence in right.  Emily Riemer moved to 3rd on a sac by Tom, and with 2 outs Courtney laid down a perfect bunt, Riemer scored and there was no play at either home or first.  IHA got a 2 out RBI in the 5th that would have been a triple if not for Margo Tanner's full extension dive (and almost catch if the turf hadn't knocked it out).  Nicole Hroncich had 7Ks, 3BBs and only 3 hits (1 to the outfield) in a breakout performance.  The amount of Ks do not tell the story of how often IHA swung threw Hroncich pitches.  Fittingly, the game ended with a hot smash speared by firstbaseman Kat Bonelli right in front of the Ridgewood bench and a large Ridgewood crowd.  Unforgettable!  Video on RXB TV.
Saturday, April 24, 2010 The Freshmen add another game into the win column, this time shutting out IHA, 9-0.  Right off the bat, the Ridgewood Freshmen were up 2-0 in the first inning.  The bulk of their runs came in the bottom of the 2nd inning with Becca Butler's double, bringing in Jen Schablik and Natalie DeCandia, followed by Erica Dennis' double, bringing in Alice Smith and Butler.  They added two more runs in the 3rd inning, with a sacrifice fly by Butler and a steal home (on a passed ball) by Meaghan Krenn (may I say a beautiful slide!).  Ridgewood picked up one more run in the 5th and that is where the score stayed.  Jaimie Gorman had another great performance on the mound, striking out 14, and throwing another no-hitter.  Their record improves to 8-1.
Wednesday, April 21, 2010 The Freshmen Team shut-out Nutley today 9-0 at Vets SE.  There was a storm coming, both from the sky, and from the mound!  Jaimie Gorman pitched an incredible no hit 6 innings, striking out 16 of the 18 batters she faced.  Nutley hit the ball twice; a grounder to Alice Smith at second, making the easy toss to Meaghan Krenn at first for the out, and a fly ball hit to centerfield caught by Jen Schablik.  Ridgewood had many hits, which included RBI's by Alice Smith, Becca Butler, Taryn Carroll, Danielle Callaghan, Meghan Krenn, Jen Schablik and Curran McSwigan.  The Freshmen Team improved their record to 7-1.
Wednesday, April 21, 2010 Varsity and JV both beat Teaneck by the official scores of a lot to a little.  Bianca Palacio and Emily Riemer each recorded their first varsity hits.
Tuesday, April 20, 2010 The Bergen Record provided great coverage of the Wayne Hills game, but inadvertently switched the identities of Kat Bonelli with Christina Bicks in the photo caption.  The Editor can think of 3 ways to tell Kat and Bicks apart: (i) Bicks moves like the speed of light, whereas Kat moves with a speed that does not quite induce the transformation of matter into energy (ii) Kat's Dad can be seen chest-butting the Editor on the sidelines during big Ridgewood moments, whereas Bicks's Dad...wouldn't that be a site worth seeing? and (iii) Kat is superstitious and only wears uniforms with the numbers 2 or 22 or 222 or 2222.
Monday, April 19, 2010 All 3 RHS softball teams beat Wayne Valley.  Varsity won a come-from-behind thriller 6-5 in 8 innings.  Christina Bicks has 3 hits, Kat Bonelli had a dramatic 2 out 2 strike 2 RBI hit in the comeback, Jeanne Kircher ripped a double in the top of th 8th and scored the winning run on a walk off would've-been-a-triple-if-we-needed-it, for her second extra base hit of the day and 4th in two days.  JV mercied in their win, and Freshmen won 13-1.
Sunday, April 18, 2010 Varsity "quieted" rival Saddle Brook at the Emerson Invitational by a score of 9-0, running the season record to 7-1.  Lauren Tom banged out 3 hits, 4 RBIs and 2 triples (sort of, see RXB TV video of game) including one that landed well over 200ft at the base of the fence.  Christine Reynolds also collected 3 hits, Jeanne Kircher has 2 hits and 3 runs scored, and Courtney Pedalino collected to 2 hits and saved 2 runs on a backhand play at shortstop.  Kat Bonelli was sharp defensively at firstbase, and Nicole Hroncich threw a 5 hit, 12 strike out shutout.
Saturday, April 17, 2010 The Ridgewood Freshmen team increased their record to 5-1, shutting out Clifton with a score of 8-0.  It was a scoreless game until the bottom of the third when Ridgewood went up 5-0.  Two more runs came in in the bottom of the 7th inning.  In the bottom of the 5th, Becca Butler, belted a  solo homer over the fence in left field. Going, Going, Gone!  (Editor's note: I wasn't there but I presume it cleared the fence somewhere around the "R" in the photo above!).
Saturday, April 17, 2010 Varsity and JV both suffered their first loss of the season in Clifton.  Varsity was held to 3 hits, and Clifton put across 4 runs in the 4th on route to a 4-0 win.  JV suffered a heartbreaking loss as they entered the bottom of the 6th with a 6-2 lead but couldn't hang on as Clifton came back to take the game 9-6.  (Editor's note:  Clifton clearly earned the Varsity win, so no sour grapes on the outcome, but purely from a community perspective both games reminded me that I'd rather have my kids lose as Ridgewood then win as Clifton.)
Thursday, April 15, 2010 Although the "mercy" rule was applied to end the game, the Freshmen team showed "no mercy" when it came to taking down Passaic Tech.  Ridgewood seemed to be one step behind for the first 3 innings; down 1-0, 4-2 and 9-3, respectively.  A rally in the top of the 4th started with a two-run homer  (over the left fielders head), by Taryn Carroll, followed by a triple by Christine Tom and an RBI single by Erica Dennis, closed the gap to 2 runs (10-8).  A solo homer by Carroll in the 5th brought them within one.  At the top of the 6th, Ridgewood's bats exploded!  With Danielle Callahan at third (triple) and Gi DeSimone at second (walk and stolen base), Meaghan Krenn laid down a beautiful drag bunt down the first-base line, bringing in Callahan.  Emma Thompson doubled bringing in DeSimone and Krenn.  All-in-all it was an inning with 11 hits (2 reached on errors), 4 walks and 13 runs.  Taryn Carroll went 4 for 4 with 2HRs, double and single and 7 RBIs on the day.  Jaimie Gorman pitched a full game with 8 strike-outs (atleast; I  missed the first two innings).  Final score, 22-12.
Thursday, April 15, 2010 JV beat Passaic Tech 14-4 to go 6-0.  Alicia Whalen got the win on the mound.
Thursday, April 15, 2010 Varsity beat Passaic Tech 9-6.  Sophomores were featyred as Courtney Pedalino and Margo Tanner had 2 hits each and Nicole Hroncich hit a triple and got the win in relief.
Tuesday, April 13, 2010 It appears Alum Meghan Megmo Morris (RHS 2008) is healthy, as she is on an 8 for 10 tear raising her season average to .380, she's back in CF where she belongs, and her CMS Athletics team in southern Cal improved to 25-5 overall and an SCIAC league leading 16-2 conference record.
Tuesday, April 13, 2010 West Milford handed the Freshmen team their first loss of the season, but West Milford needed to fight for it!  Solid pitching and fielding held both teams to a 0-0 game until the 3rd inning.  West Milford pulled ahead 1-0, but Becca Butler answered back with a triple, launching a rocket to rightcenter (too bad the fence was there), bringing Meaghan Krenn across the plate.  With Jen Schablik pinch running for Becca, the suicide squeeze (sort of) was on! Taryn Carroll laid down a perfect bunt, but unfortunately missed beating the throw to first by a step.  The scored remained tied at 1-1. West Milford scored  two unanswered runs in the fifth resulting in the 3-1 final score.
Tuesday, April 13, 2010 JV won 10-4 over West Milford.
Tuesday, April 13, 2010 RHS Varsity improved to 5-0 with a big win over previously undefeated West Milford by a score of 10-8 in a wild game at West Milford.  Ridgewood slugged 13 hits including 7 doubles, and held off a hot hitting West Milford team that fought back from a 10-5 deficit to put the tying run on second with 2 outs in the 7th.  Claire Dennis, Alex Scibetta and Christine Reynolds each had 3 hits (Claire had 3 RBIs), Jeanne Kircher and Christina Bicks had key doubles, Margo Tanner made 3 big catches in right, Reynolds made 2 spectacular diving catches in left, Kat Bonelli started a rally with a basehit and single handedly got Ridgewood out of a jam in the 6th with a great pick at first followed by a third-to-first-third double play, and Courtney Pedalino played solid shortstop.
Saturday, April 10, 2010 JV played a crisp quick game to dispatch of Wayve Valley 3-0.  Andie Scibetta had 2 hits and a run scored, Amy Davis had a key hit and scored the first run, Sam Turino caught a fly ball in right to initiate a double play, and Katie Mulroy threw the shutout.  SEE RXB TV VIDEO.
Saturday, April 10, 2010 RHS Varsity beat Wayne Valley 7-3 to run its record to 4-0.  Kat Bonelli ripped a 2 RBI single in the 3rd to give Ridgewood a 2-0 lead.  WV came back to tie the game 2-2 in the of the 4th, but Ridgewood pushed ahead 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th on a wild pitch and a sac fly by Jeanne Kircher.  Ridgewood tacked on 3 in the 5th on a bases loaded bases clearing error on a fly to right by Lauren Tom.  Nicole Hroncich got the win on the mound.

Thursday, April 08, 2010  Freshmen team is on a roll.  3 in the win column.  Joint pitching effort from Jaimie Gorman and Natalie DeCandia to take the win against Passaic.  On the offensive side, Ridgewood was up 3-0 in the first inning.  Scored another 6 in the second inning, with back-to-back-to-back doubles by Erica Dennis, Allie Seibold and Emma Thompson, and a bases loaded single by Meghan Krenn.  Both Seibold and Thompson contributed 3RBIs each toward the effort. Three additional runs in the third inning for a final score of 12-0.

Thursday, April 08, 2010 RHS Varsity ran its record to 3-0, beating Passaic 6-0 behind Marisa Gorman's no hit, 4 walk, 6 K performance, solid Ridgewood defense, and a homerun by Christine Reynolds (steroids test pending).
Thursday, April 08, 2010 JV improved to 3-0 with a big win a 14-3 win over Passaic.
Tuesday, April 06, 2010 RHS Varsity beat Bergen Tech 4-1 on another perfect April day at Vets Southeast.  Ridgewood trailed 1-0 through 5 1/2 innings, but battled back with 4 in the 6th.  Marisa Gorman had the only hit until the rally in the 6th.  That rally was started by Chris Reynolds who legged out an infield single, stole second, moved to third on a sac bunt by Alex Scibetta, and scored ahead of a throw to the plate on a ground ball to second by Lauren Tom.  Courtney Pedalino followed with a hit, Claire Dennis then plated Tom with an RBI single, Margo Tanner put down a successful squeeze bunt RBI, and Gorman plated the 4th run with an RBI grounded out.  Nicole Hronich was dominant on the mount, yielding 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 11.  Odd stat of the day:  In 2 games, Ridgewood has played 17 defensive innings, has taken a lead into only 1 of those innings, and has a 2-0 record.  That translates into beaucoup drama so far in this young season.
Tuesday, April 06, 2010 The JV moved to 2-0 behind the pitching of Katie Mulroy.  After winning the first game of the season 10-0 and this game 15-5, it seems as though 10 run differentials is a lucky number for this team.  Katie was backed by solid hitting up and down the lineup.  Emily Riemer was again strong at the plate with 2 hits one being a line drive home run hit far enough that she could have drunk a Coke before the ball got into the infield.  Hannah Schwartz went 3-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs.
Tuesday, April 06, 2010 The Freshmen team beat Bergen Tech 16-1 at Vets North.  Jaimie Gorman pitched the complete game victory, Danielle Callahan ripped a 3 RBI bases loaded triple, and Alice Smith had 4 RBIs.
Monday, April 05, 2010 The Freshman team beat PV 14-1 last Thursday.  Danielle Callahan turned a bunt into a triple, and catcher Becca Butler picked off a runner at first on route to the rout.

Saturday, April 03, 2010 Ellen Seavers (RHS 2006) is having a huge senior year, leading her TCNJ team in average (.404), RBIs (19) and hits (23), while Kelly Hommen (RHS 2009) is batting .333 and has yet to make an error in the field.
Thursday, April 01, 2010 Whiff, whiff, whiff is what the crowd heard time and again as Marisa Gorman took the mound for the first time in a year and recorded a perfect game as the JV team won its opening game 10-0.  Gorman recorded 12 strikeouts over the 4 innings that the game lasted and no more than 6 times did the oppositions bat even touch the ball (majority being foul tips).  Though the defense had only 2 opportunities during the entire game, offensively it was as a team effort with several connecting and driving in runs.  Emily Riemer started it off by driving in the first run of the year and had a nice day going 2-3 with a solid triple to left center.  This was topped only by Katie Mulroy who went 3-3 with all being screaming line drives.  With a deep bench the JV is poised to have a very nice season.  See "Photos" page.
Thursday, April 01, 2010 RHS Varsity started the season with a thrilling 1-0 10 inning win over Passaic Valley at home in front of a large crowd on a perfect day.  Kat Bonelli squeezed home Bianca Palacio, who was running for Claire Dennis, to score the winning run in the International Tie Breaker format.  Nicole Hronich struck out 10, gave up only 2 hits (only 1 out of the infield after the first inning) and pitched her way through jams throughout to record the win.  The RIdgewood defense played flawlessly and made no errors.  With no outs in the 3rd inning, Centerfielder Alex Scibetta made what turned out to be a game saving diving catch in rightcenter and then jumped to her feet and doubled off the runner at second.  Scibetta also had 2 hits, while Christina Bicks, Chris Reynolds and Lauren Tom had one each.  Catcher Claire Dennis and SS Courtney Pedalino hooked up on a key stolen base putout in the late innings.  Bonelli made key plays at first, digging out a throw in the dirt, and starting a force play at home with bases loade no outs in the top of the 10th.  See "Photos" and "RXB TV".
Tuesday, March 30, 2010 Pitcher Julia Jacobs (RHS 2006) ran her record to 5-2 with a 0.92 ERA, and 1B Lauren Coven (RHS 2006) leads the team in RBIs and went 2-4 with 3 RBIs and an HR on Sunday March 26, as Bowdoin College ran its overall record to 13-5.

Sunday, March 21, 2010 The RHS Softball team raised over $6,000 from generous donations from the Ridgewood community.  Thank you Ridgewood for supporting this great program during these difficult times!

Friday, March 19, 2010 RHS opened its scrimmage season yesterday at Vets in perfect weather.  The Varsity beat Old Tappan 7-0.  Jeanne Kircher and Marisa Gorman each threw 4 shutout innings, Jeanne ripped a triple over the CF head, Christina Bicks started a 7 run rally in the 5th inning with a perfect bunt base hit, and SS Courtney Pedalino initiated a 6-4-3 DP in her first ever Varsity touch and made a ton of plays.  The JV also won handily, with Nicole Hroncich striking out a bunch, and the Freshman won as well.  Today Varsity and JV host Mt St Dominic at Vets.
Friday, March 12, 2010 Melisa (Mikey) Cagar (RHS 2007) is batting .500 and leading the team in runs scored (11) and SBs (7 for 8) as her Brandies University team recorded a 5-1 record in Florida games to date.
Friday, March 12, 2010 Enroute to a 6-0 start in Florida, TCNJ senior SS Ellen Seavers (RHS 2006) is batting .450 and leading the team in hits, doubles, HRs, RBIs, total bases and slugging %.
Thursday, March 11, 2010 This from the TCNJ website regarding 2009 Graduate Kelly Hommen:  Hommen got her collegiate career off to a fast start helping the softball team win its first two games of the season. She picked up two hits in the a season-opening 8-3 win over Rochester and then boasted a 3-for-3 performance in a 12-1 triumph over Dominican University. She is hitting an impressive .833 so far this season and has also driven in a pair of runs and scored three times.
Saturday, March 06, 2010 RHS 2008 Graduate Meghan Morris (more famously known as Megmo) is in Southern California with CMS Athletics (Claremont McKenna College), so they start early.  The team has jumped out to a 7-2 start, 4-0 in the Southern Cal Intercollegiate Conference (SCIAC).  Megmo was hampered by an achilles injury, so rather than slapping and running, they have her swinging away, resulting in a show of power with a double and triple and a .286 batting average.  She's also been playing some 1B as the heel heals...
Saturday, March 06, 2010  RHS 2009 Graduate Jaime Lukas's SUNY Oneonta team went to Claremont, FL on Feb 26.  Currently 5-4.  No stats posted yet to know how Jaime is doing.
Saturday, March 05, 2010 Tryouts have begun!
On Tuesday, Freshman fall to Paramus.  Varsity and JV games vs Paramus postponed and rescheduled for 5/22 due to "unplayable fields" (although rumor has it that Paramus was seen practicing on those fields).
